Ok, I have been reading some threads on another bike forum (calm down Nick not that one!) and a few people have posted up about dropping their bikes and other embarrassing biking faux pas, so I thought it might be a good topic for a thread here!!
I will start of and say that I have dropped my VFR a couple of times, the most embarrassing one was when I went to tear off and the disc lock was still on, I gave it a fist full of revs and let the clutch out only to be nearly punted of the front and dropping the bike on its side, luckily the disc lock was near the brake already so not a lot of momentum was built up and no damage done to the brake, disc, fork or lock just to my pride and a scratch on the fairing!!
However the MOST embarrassing drop was when I had my VT500e, I was joining the local advanced rider group for an evening ride. The meeting place was at Newlands Corner car park at 6pm after work on a Tuesday (oh I remember it so well!) Due to work issues I was running a bit late and was in a panic about getting there as they left at 6:30 sharp for a good blast around the country side. Well I was late and arrived, at 6:25 in a flap, to a car park with some 15 bike and about 20 people all lined up in a row getting ready for the off. I putted around to the end of the line where I though it best to park up.
I thought that as they were advanced riders I would do it all properly so I stopped, killed the engine with the off switch, killed the ignition with the key, pushed out the side stand and dismounted....... Unfortunately the side stand was not down properly and the bike whilst falling to the left hand side sent me sprawling to the floor like a rag doll..........D'oh!
Twenty people all went "Noooo" together and turned away to hide their laughter, then after 20-30 seconds laying on the floor a couple of the guys came over to help me lift the bike up and set it on the stand properly.
Needless to say after that ride I never went back again............!
