As I detest stripping the dreaded Keihen carbs, and being a risk averse sort, starting this riding season I've been removing the ethanol from my "no more than 5% ethanol" Tesco Premium petrol. I've done this three times now twenty litres at a time, Batch 1,= 2.8%. Batch 2,= 3.2%. and just this minute have done Batch 3, which yielded a surprisingly small .5%. I wonder if the current disruption caused by Vlad has anything to do with the massive drop in the ethanol content?
I always go with the 5% stuff as I feel less aggrieved about throwing away 5% of what I've paid for than the 10% option, and I'm pretty happy about getting more petrol than I bargained for.

ETHANOL its been around as long as the internal combustion engine ,in fact that's what they run on till governments created the alcohol tax and petrol became a cheaper alternative. In the 70s third world countries started putting ethanol in there fuel 1976 brazil introduced e25 and e35 is not uncommon there is even e100 sold.YES it is damaging yes it destroys fuel lines it absorbs moisture ,fuel lines deterioate over time anyway and the moisture in the fuel is only a problem when the bike is a ornament it rots out the tank and clogs up the carbs but all fuel does this .my brother in law restores cars for a living and the problems he has with fuel system are from parts that have been replaced over its life, not genuine parts as the world is a lot bigger market than the uk so vehicles have been ethanol compliant for a long long time.THE GOOD ethanol increases the octane of the fuel i have run my triumph t150 on e10 and it runs fine the superdream as run on it from day one and runs fine ,the down side its less efficient i have been told its 10% but i think its more.FUEL over time gives you problems all these tanks duffer is repairing did not rot out in the last 12 months al vehicles if they are not going to be in use need to be decommissioned so doing nothing they do not deteriorate because they will .E10 is not satan's soop but it will accelerate problem's your vehicle already has.JUST MY OPINION RUNNING 7 BIKES THAT HAVE A 70 YEAR AGE DIFFERENCE ALL ARE RUNNING E10 EXCEPT THE BUELL IT WILL ONLY HAVE SHELL OPTIMAX ANYTHING ELSE IT GIVES ME THE FINGER
