I needed some new shock absorbers and considered David Silver Spares & TEC Bike parts as both theirs look like the originals in appearance and had been recommended in a previous thread on the forum. As I was ordering other parts from David Silver Spares it made sense to order shock absorbers as well rather than pay for 2 seperate courier deliveries. I was not only disappointed in the quality of the chroming, that looked like rust showing through, but was more concerned with the size of the forks. The gap is simply too wide for the original Honda bolts and the bushes they attach to and hence hardly any thread takes hold when bolted on. I was most concerned that a shock absorber held on by this bolt, when jolted going over a bump, could become detached from the swinging arm which in turn would then drop away causing a catastrophic accident. I wrote an email to David silver spares who offered an exchange but then found all their stock was the same so upon return of the shock absorbers gave me a refund. Despite more emails being sent the issue of a potentially dangerous design fault was simply ignored and not commented on. I have now received the TEC shock absorbers which are a better fit and the bolt now goes all the way through. www.tecbikeparts.com/product/cb250n-cb400n-cb400t-at-tec-shock-absorbers/So TEC shock absorbers wins over David Silver Spares if anyone needs any

Interesting about the poor quality of the chroming on the Silvers shocks. I bought a pair of CM pipes from Silvers in 2013 when I was assembling the parts for a future build, I didn't get around to the build till 2018, the first time the pipes got up to full working temperature the chrome blistered and flaked off. By then with the unused pipes being five years old I thought it would be pointless to even bother trying to return them.

i get lots of gear from D S mainly O M parts as pattern parts i have found cheaper elsewhere.about 30 years ago when i got more interest in brits. the quality of parts then was terrible and expensive as there was no internet you could not voice your grievance and if you s**t on me i will voice it loudly and to everybody.as the internet grew so did the market.lots of rubbish started to come from asia but forums like this have a voice and people listen and in the end so do the sellers when they realise they can't sell there crap.I find that the big players drop the ball and rubbish like this is sold.i have a bsa a10 plunger got a full exhaust from armour .the right side fitted perfect the left would probably fit the superdream better .would they listen no .went on the forum sites and found this was a old problem going back 3 years armed with this info and the slaggin i was going to give them they sent a courier with a full system and took the old and it fitted .never buy parts up front if you do make sure they fit and fit for purpose ,two months down the road you have lost the argument .

Just to add to this tory...My buddy Gordon that has been invaluable in helping me with the Dream build, mentioned that Silvers had a set of shocks for a good price.
I commented that, "Silvers stuff is normally good, go for it".....luckily he had not bought them yet.
I emailed him your pics Steve and I am pretty sure he is reconsidering.
Cheers.
Graeme.

Those shocks are not just unsightly but potentially dangerous as can be seen in the photo of the bolt fully wound in.
That bolt will fall out and despite my emails expressing my concern about this I get a "standard" reply about how to return an item that I am not satisfied with.
Perhaps Its just me being over cautious, and not prepared to accept the potential risk to me and other buyers, but I expected more of a response than that.

I had the same problem with a pair of down pipes for the 400NC I'd only done 7 miles and all the chrome fell off he replaced them straight away and included a new set of graphite gaskets free of charge ,sometimes his stock is dodgy but his customer service is second to none

Silvers SD Shocks are more generic - bought a set years ago and did not use them until last year and they would not fit without cutting the chain guard
Bought a set of TEC and they look the part
