Greetings fine forum members, it's been a while, I have been active on the other forum, of which I will not comment further. Much has changed with my SD, most importantly a change of colour thanks to Sir Duffer, master painting maestro. But now I require a further improvement, namely the fitting of a 400 engine, brakes and associated parts, because, well the 250 is a bit gutless and I want something a bit less so. I had much success on this forum with the original build thread which is still available to view, so what say you fine fellows, can thee help with parts and advice ? ππΊ

Bike looks great. I like the blue SDs, but red seems to suit that model with black cylinders & wheel spokes. Finding a 400 engine & carbs and airbox rubbers will be your biggest challenge in that there were never as many 400s around as the 250. There's a couple of engines on ebay atm though.

Many thanks for your comments Sir Ian, the engine is only black because that's the way I wanted it, as documented in the original build thread. The colour change is due to a desire to replicate a previous SD owned by the old man in the early eighties, the 400 upgrade is due to wanting a bit more poke, nothing more, and I want something to do as I'm bored π

Not sure which colour I prefer, they both look great, but beats Silver! 400 definitely the way to go for the more power and any distance needing travelled. 250 ideal for scooting about in though. Cheers. Gee.

I'm with Gee, my 250 is my all weather hack now & I enjoy riding it, but the 400s are do anything bikes with enough power for big trips. If they still made them I'd buy a new one & it would be my only bike (well....maybe I'd have a couple of old bikes for projects & a bit of variety )

Lord Beer. You need to add side panels and 400 decals to your list. Fortunately I have not yet drunk all your paint. Unless you were planning to hark back to the good old days when we ran a 400 with 250 decals just to fool the plod ?

Thank you Sir Duffer, most generous, I have cast my net wide in my endeavours, so far that it spans many forums, surely failure is not an option ππΊπ

Just sell the 250 and invest in a 400 that's what I would do and that's what I advice to others when they want more power that's just me and what the f**k do I know

Nope, not doing that at all, the 250 is a keeper, to much work had gone into it, the plan is to gather all parts required for the upgrade and store the 250 parts in case I ever want to put it back to the way it was.
A pain in the arse? probably, but so what, it's my bike and I shall do with as I wish, and I like challenges, although as most would agree, the difference would be minimal, but I have other bikes with stupid horsepower to play with, so this is just a wish.
This is not an investment, SD's aren't worth much anyway, this is more a labour of love, hang the expense ππΊ
Although in general, your advice would be most correct π
