Does anyone know how to distinguish an Reduced Effect 400 motor from the standard model. Is the only way to inspect the cam, or is there some tell tale markings to be found somewhere.
The reason I ask is that I have recently got my CM250 running properly after many trials and tribulations, and having never ridden a six valve 250 before this was surprised how little difference there is between it and my 8000 miles, all original 400 which has excellent compression and runs like a top. Both the 250, and the reduced effect 400 are allegedly 27bhp, hence my suspicions..

I read on here, somewhere, that the torque of the 400 is much greater although not as much HP as a normal 400 (43).
Gee.
