Righty guys, here's a Q for the engine guru's amongst you of which I am not. Engines in bits, heads been parted from the crank and cylinder barrels and heads apart. Ok, say there are 6 parts, one 250 and one 400 engine. Now then I know they say on the cylinder part the cc but how can you tell what crank and what head goes with each cylinder part. I have found boxes in my shed of engine bits, 3 maybe 4 engines worth, two 400 heads, a few 250 heads as well and that's not all the boxes checked, just about 10 of them. If this is something that should be staring me in the face, then I will grab ma coat, needless to say, I will be not reassembling them and I didn't take them apart. Cheers. Gee.

Size of the piston pins / conrod small end, if it is 15mm diameter, it's a 250?
All earlier engines? 20#-####, 21#-#### & 22#-####. Not NC and later, with the external oil feed? 23#-#### / 24#=####
All those rocker arm assemblies should have the 414=250 or 413=400 on them somewhere.
I would be assuming (but don't know), that the Diameter of the combustion chamber recess on the cylinder head will be either approx 63mm or 71mm to suite the bores?
