As I seem to have been going round and round in circles I thought I would ask here. What is the best LEGAL way to dispose of old petrol? I have looked on our local Council's website but that was a waste of time. I have bought some Esso synergy 99 octane which isn't supposed to have any ethanol in it and I need to get rid of the old petrol.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Petrol fumes ignite, if you smell fumes from petrol, the chances are it will still ignite.
The rest is up to you
Big old oil drum, chuck in some wood, pour over your fuel and throw in a match....wait a bit, then throw in a lit match...then run....check your eyebrows.....but you get the idea.
Dig a hole in the ground, fill with wood...etc etc
As far as I am aware there is no law against burning old petrol fuel in a safe manner. Mix it with diesel for a slower ignition.
(The old salamanders would burn/heat on anything).
Good at burning/killing weeds
As long as there is plenty of air and an OPEN vessel, there should be no...explosion.(its the fumes that ignite first)
Just one major point, NEVER throw fuel on a open flame.
Common sense prevails, its an accelerant and can be used as that for several purposes.
Gee.

Depends how old the Petrol it is, but I tend to stick it in my Cars fairly full Petrol Tank (as long as its not Leaded Petrol)

My local recycling centre will take it, they told me to put it in with the oil, can’t see why your local recycling point wouldn’t.

If its in a sealed container my local Tidy tip takes it - leave it beside the oil tank
