I recently put my CM250 back on the road after 22 years dismantled and stored in assorted boxes. It was Inevitable there would be a few teething problems to work through, but one I've not encountered before is rev counter lag.
The accompanying speedo seems perfectly happy to be awoken from it's long slumber, but the needle on the rev counter just lethargically ambles around the dial always 1-2 seconds behind the actual engine speed.
The CM instruments being factory crimped shut, I was wondering if anyone knows if it is safe to offer the recalcitrant rev counter some encouragement by a small carefully applied shot of WD40 or SP90 dry film silicone spray into it's cable connection opening. Any suggestions and advice would be welcome..

There's a good tip on removing the crimped rims in this thread honda-superdream.co.uk/thread/10071/clocks-refresh-free It's worth trying squirting a bit of lube up before you resort to pulling it apart, I've done it to get rid of squeaks from both the speedo & rev counter in the past with no issue. My rev counter sometimes takes a few seconds to wake up when I start the bike, but soon staggers out of bed & then keeps up ok

Hello the trouble with wd its not a permanent lubricant it will wash away what lubricant there is.you can remove the speedo bezel with care.i used to use clock oil but found sewing machine oil cheaper .my reve counter after a long stand is a bit lazy the cable gets a bit dry were it passes nere the exhaust I give mine a wipe with gear oil it stays in one place better than engine oil

Yes, I used chain lube - in a handy squirty can & I don't use it on chains anymore, too much mess, I use gear oil for that job - needs doing more often, but easier to clean up the fling

I have seen this before where the inner of the cable is gummed up and it retards its spinning action. Just a thought, and I may well be wrong, but its an easy thing to try before dismantling stuff? regards Bob
