Hi all, after months of putting my cb250n back to near original condition I managed to start it today and it ran ok once I got fuel through the carbs but I have an oil leak from the cylinder head close to the r/h exhaust port .It doesn't seem to be leaking from the head or rocker cover .The previous owner said it had a top end overall but he hadn't ran it since and had started to convert it to a cafe racer. Any ideas?

Could be the seal on the cylinder head bolt coming from that area and new bolts for the two fifty are hard to find

I think you could be right, now I have shone a torch in that area I can see the head bolt where it comes through so it could well be running under the bolt head and down the shank. At least it is better than a cracked head, I'll investigate further. Thanks

Maybe the copper washer is missing (depending on what model you have). I've a similar problem on one of my engines, but never got round to tackling it yet. apart from that trickle of oil, the engine seems fine, provided the casing thread for that bolt is not damaged..

Just had a look under the cam cover and found all the back row of head bolts had washers under and the front the front right! Looks like I will have to remove them all to check if the correct bolts are in their places. Another question, do I have to drop the engine to remove the head bolts?

Hi
The copper washers are only fitted to the middle four Bolts as shown in the engine schematic above post.
A little tip I was told was to reheat them to anneal which softens them to be re used if they are not too far gone.

You can remove the head without removing the engine In the top of the frame you can see 4 hole the allow access to the bolts and there removal. Take care not to drop any washers down the tunnel. Regards Graham
