Hi All
I was wondering what the members use for Thread Locker in the Engine rebuilds as Honda Manual doesn't specify a specific type.
I have always tended to use Blue Loctite 243 in the past. However, their seems to be a semi consenus on the Net to using the Red Loctite 270 or 277 on areas where it is unlikely to be revisited such as, Big End Nuts (I know the manual doesn't state to use here, but, I am intending to use some), Cam Gear to Camshaft and Starter Clutch to Crankshaft.
I would be grateful on any views on this as I am very much old school, more use to working on old Car Engines, but, times have moved on, not to mention Motorbike Engines are far more high reving?
Many thanks Phil

hello i find shop manuals are a guide not a bible and the superdream is a 40 year old design and engines today are a dream to work on.fasteners there are high stress one's and one's that stop things in moving in directions you do not want them to.modern engines use stretch bolts these are throw away one use as you tighten them up in a unique way.but the superdream is old school the only bolts i would replace or check very carefully are the big end bolts and using thread lock i have no problem with even when it does not say.if the bolts are in good condition and torqued down to the correct settings you should have no problems.i use loctite red simply i got bottles of the stuff from work .simply if you are unsure put some on it will not hurt

Hi Mark
Many thanks for that much appreciated. Yes I think I will invest in some Red Loctite as I don't intend to do another total strip of the engine (hopefully).
