I bought a 250 superdream... I think.......
It was late and dark. I was excited and had gone over everything I could think of. I even took it for a short test ride. Then I took the bike off his hands and happily rode it home.
Now - a few days later - I was checking the tacho cable when I saw the chassis plate of the frame. To my surprise it said CB250T. The plastic side covers say CB250N superdream. I’m coming from a 1000cc bike so I can’t tell if the engine feels like a 17hp or a 27hp.
Advice? I’ve contacted the seller. Waiting to hear back.

Hi
If no luck try contacting David Silver spares with Engine and Frame numbers they should be able to tie it in for you.

Hi, not sure about markings on the plates but the CB250T (dream) was the forerunner to the Superdream as you appear to be aware. Not sure how much it shares with the superdream but they look to have similar parts in many areas.seems you are questioning the engine? There are likely a number of key differences with the engine as the super dream was more sporty. but a couple of key clues are: - on the RHS Superdrream engine casing there is a chrome round access cover about 25-30mm in diameter to adjust the balancer chain. The cb250t does not have that - the superdream has a 6 spears gearbox whereas the CB250T has a 5 speed gearbox Others in the forum may know how to check engine and frame numbers. Hope this helps

The plot thickens....
It’s registered as a 1978 but it’s the black version with red/orange stripes. Also the engine has no kick start. That suggests as someone mentioned to me on another post that it’s a superdream N-A. Early 1980s.
The engine indeed has 6 gears. I went out to ride it and paid attention as I knew that was a key difference. I’m not sure about the chrome cover. I haven’t noticed chrome on the engine.
I’m utterly confused as to what’s happened with this bike.

Thanks Mansell,
I had considered that Honda had used the same frame. Perhaps they saved some money doing? Who knows.
But the fact it’s a 78 plate bike but has the paint and engine from a later bike is very strange. Pair that with the 250T frame and it’s all bizarre. The seller said I can return it if u like but as the engine is the 27hp version, I’m inclined to keep it I think.
I just want to know what the ins and outs of the old girl at this point lol

I just want to know what the ins and outs of the old girl at this point lol The problem is that over 40 odd years many “bitsa’s” have been created from the many interchangeable parts of the two bikes. Is there a photo of your bike for reference? if you’re not worried about originality and it does what it needs to I’d be tempted to just use as is. But like you, I’d need to know more to satisfy my curiosity. Dig deep, you’ll get to the bottom of this...

An image of a 250T from another post on the forum, the frame looks the same so bolting Superdream parts to it is not inconceivable. Over 40 years anything is possible...

I’m not sure how to post a picture? When you click create post, look at the top right and you’ll see “add image to post” click that and it opens another window. If the picture is on your device just click” browse from your computer” and you’ll be taken to your pictures. Click an image and it will post a link. At this stage it won’t be a picture, when you click “ create post” the picture will appear.

I’ve uploaded an avatar as even on the desktop site I can’t upload a photo Difficult to tell from that but it does appear to have 250t front indicators. So who knows, it may well have started life as a T and morphed into an N over time, esp if the frame is a T.
