My 400 superdream airbox has a flat metal alloy filter that is placed behind the front of the box (inside) and prevents access to the carb rubbers from inside the box, should it be there? Superdream novice

Item 8 in Steve's diagram is an alloy frame that holds item 2,the foam filter, in place under the lid of the airbox. It's across the top of the airbox & I don't think you could describe it as a 'filter'. Has someone ditched the foam filter? Or has the whole lot been replaced by a perforated alloy sheet behind the rubbers?

My deluxe had the perforated metal sheet too it went in to the front face of the airbox immediately behind the carb rubbers Can't see it on the diagram ,I removed mine as I felt it restricted air flow

Well you live & learn, all 3 of mine N, NA & NB are as the diagram with the foam filter sandwiched across the top. Do yours still have that arrangement along with the perforated plate at the front?

Yes Ian the foam filter sat horizontal at the top and the screen was vertical over the air box rubbers .Don't think there was one in the NC 400 either never fitted or removed by a previous owner

Flame trap maybe ? [in case the carbs spit back into the airbox].

Woooah! Don't say that - I'm sat just above the airbox & there's no 'flame trap' on my bikes
