Not an incident with a pillion but your helmet holder reference has just reminded me of something else. At 16 I rode and often parked up my C50 in St Mary's Butts in Reading. I had a nice Kiwi full face helmet back then and then one day, I just decided to leave attached to the helmet holder as I had a lot of stuff to carry in town. You've probably already guessed it.......but when I got back some b****** had nicked my lid by cutting the strap. The amount of hassle that caused me on that day was a total nightmare.

Know the feeling The future father in-law was stuck for a lift into work , so asked if I would take him the 10 miles (Fords of Dagenham) On my old Matchless 350cc. It was a bit cold but he never asked again or mentioned it again . Still wondering 50 years later

Last time I was pillion was 2019, motorcycle Taxis in Bangkok, always told them Cha Cha very slowly please, as some of them appear to think the more Kamikaze they can be, the more likely a tip . Always counted the seconds to arrive at the BTS station. (Road Deaths in Thailand are >10x the UK rate )

If I wore PPE in these temps Mark I’d die of heat exposure or pass out meaning I certainly would have a crash.
But I fully know the risks and appreciate the concern my mate. Good news is it’s cooling down to the mid twenties soon so I’ll be more protected and kitted up.

I am not concerned about you nick lad in the village it took 3 years to put the skin back on his back and thigh after he got a lift a t shirt and joggin bottoms.nobody goes out with the intention something might happen but I would not let anybody on the back of me with no gear on.the rider as far as I am concerned can wear whatever he want's but the person on the back is the rider's responsibility and liability is on him or her.with no NHS to fall on over there your insurance will really appreciate it was a hot day

When I lived in Texas, the heat in the summer was ferocious, but I had a mesh jacket with armour, it was pretty well as cool as a tshirt and gave at least some protection (though I did look like an extra from a Village People video!). When it got really hot (40c +) I just never used the bike - not generally a problem in the UK though! On the pillion thing, never a problem on older bikes, been on the back of all manner of bikes, but recently wnet on the back of my son in laws R1, even when stationary it was terrifying! Knees around ears, seat the size of a 5 pound not - never again!

The K100 and the K1200 really kick out some heat, well you are sat above a car engine on it's side, if it's hot in the summer I wear kevlar padded jeans and motocross body armor with a fleece. Not like the two pillocks I saw riding mopeds this summer were only in shorts.
I'm sure I remember getting stopped by the police in my teens for just wearing jeans and a jacket.

A lot more laid back in Cali thankfully. We were certainly wearing jeans on Sunday though but you often see grown 50 plus men riding Harleys near enough naked - with the American flag poking out of their but cheeks though of course, flapping in the wind.
