There was a 60s event at Port Erin railway station today Unfortunately the forecast was for heavy rain, so the precious rockers left their bikes at home, but not the hard boy mods. Our SD & RS might be modern, but we reckoned they'd still recognise them as motorbikes, so we left them round the corner out of sight. The classic car guys were equally precious - no sign of our neighbours' TR3, XK140 & MGA, but a couple of VW convertibles (yawn), a stack of minis and a solitary Imp A couple of minis had the sort of mods that would have been done back in the day, including flared arches (remember putting these on my Spitfire back in the 70s) We headed home just as the first spots of rain arrived, but it wasn't roads slippy from the rain we had to worry about, it was dead flies!

My first bike was an LD150, 15 quid I'd saved from my after school job delivering booze for the local offy on an old bicycle with rod/stirrup brakes & a huge basket on the front. I got the Lambretta in preparation for leaving school & starting my apprenticeship, but once I started work I realised it wasn't up to it & saved up £30 for a Tiger Cub I quite like the old classic Vespas & Lambrettas, but I don't think I could manage the clutch & gears with my duff arm & a twist & go wouldn't be the same

My first “bike” was an LD150,cost £10 with a broken shaft drive that was repaired for 17/-6d parts and labour at local bike shop and the shaft broke again few months after had it repaired again and some bar steward nicked me engine! Happy days back in 1969😁

My mate bought a Tina as a non runner from another mate that lived 10 miles from us,got a bus to pick it up and decided it’d be far quicker/shorter pushing it back along the canal, wrong there were a few stretches where the tow path disappeared it was a nightmare. The Tina stood in the garage for ages before going to scrapyard lol.😂😂

Must've been common with Tinas Dave, a school pal of mine had one but whenever I called round on my Cub, it was still in the shed & not running. Don't think he ever got it back on the road.

WhenI was 17 I had a Vespa, don't normally admit to it though. PX125 with a 175cc over bore kit and big carb. Pass my test on it.

Lambrettas for me never found the Vespa an attractive machine😁 Since 2015 due to mobility issues I’ve owned 4 twist and go scoots and a Hondamatic and love riding them especially the Burgman which can be ridden auto or manual and has a power button for faster acceleration ( love hate relationship with it though,so many issues with it )

The Vespa was OK, my mate at the time had an old even for then Lambretta, I was always a mechanical nut back then and soon shifted to motorcycles. Bikes had more going for them, for me anyway, no hidden away engines, handling too.
I remember once on the Vespa being brought to a complete soaking stop when I hit a very large puddle after a flash storm, the water forced an aquaplane, came over the top of the legsheilds and soaked me - Not cool.

Hi Think you lot must have talked this up I have never owned or ridden a scooter from back when they were in their hayday. (i did have a twist & go honda dilan with the motorhome). Motor bikes all the way from 1968. Just had my neighbour (Mrs B.) come to the door and ask me if I would do-up her sons vespa scooter for a christmas present for him . She says it is a PX125 . that's about all I know . anyone had any experience of one . Said I would let her know in a day or so. ........... Cheers Graham
