its probably my imagination but I remember diana ross getting some serious air time, on top of the pops and the radio, the bikes interesting but they are an acquired taste. I never owned the gsx but I did own the gs250 custom (it wasnt very custom, just a lowered riders seat and some higher bars). it was bought for £80 from the milk tanker driver (I grew up on a farm) and our lad took me to pick it up on the back of his gs550. all the way home our lad followed me to make sure it didnt break down right up until we got to the long straight uphill about 3 miles from home, at this point he shoots past me, right thinks I lets see what this thing can do (empty road, apart from our lad) so I screwed it on through every gear and it simply sailed into red and got to 80mph (matched our lad on his 550) the engine was so smooth it almost felt like a 4 cylinder (maybe even a 6). pulled into the farmyard and the header pipes were glowing red hot (oops), but none of this abuse ever seemed to bother it, it never even discoloured its oil, it always looked like it had just come out of a can. its a memorable bike because I also had my most embarrassing crash on it. I was following a good looking girl in a ford fiesta back into the village on a back road, she looked in her mirror and smiled so the plank that I am had to show off and overtake her. pushed my luck a bit too far by shooting past her and then completely overcooking it on the next bend. as I was picking myself out of the ditch she drove past and simply laughed at me, I had to pick my newly battered ego up (and the bike) and get myself home. so what bike did I fall back on while I fettled the gs250? yep a good old 250 SD (our lads)

Oh Buster you take me back to my own embarrassment... Not bike related though. Picture the pratt in the shades in the Hyundai Coupe no less, just overtaken the pretty girls in the Mini. Had the smiles and the giggles from them for a couple of miles first, then we all pulled up at the traffic lights with me now in front. Decided to show off the Coupe party piece - the motorised self extending aerial- which I thought would convey some sort of image...... It DID... it didn't stop at the top, pushed itself (still erect) right out of the hole and fell over the back of the car all floppy ! Give me a ditch and a motorbike anytime........

I also had one of those Hyundai Coupes around ten years ago.
And how I got from Aston in Birmingham to the CV37 post code in 3rd without stopping (after the clutch went) I’ll never know......mind you it was late at night.

Remember 1980 fairly well,I was into second year of my biking sabbatical and was driving a Morris Marina a TC no less with metallic Reynard paint and vinyl roof,it was shite and I was planning my next car 🚘 I still have the Bowie cassette Ashes to Ashes my sister bought me for my birthday that year and we were heading for the recession of 1981 my brother was still recovering from his injuries sustained courtesy of his CX500 and we were awaiting the arrival of my Dads family from Australia

Got 117,500 miles out of it before the cam belt threw the towel in early. Not bad for a 1.6. Never forgave that aerial though.

1980. Black Honda CB250N in Black, RGD 550W long gone, lasted 7 months on it, bought from Victor Devine's in Glasgow, Great Western Road, the original branch, sold to me by his brother Richard, sadly no longer with us.
I wanted a CB250T Dream, but it sold the week before.
The best year of my life, good paying job, pub on a Friday and a SuperDream.
Gee.

1980, I was riding a CB250G5. I had a Hyundai Coupe, but mine was the earlier turbo 'Scoupe', replacing my 80s Capri

Only just started an apprenticeship in 1980, did not get my first bike, a RD125DX (full power) until 1981... Frequently had shots on GSX250s when swapping in 1982 (after passing my test of course), lovely smooth engine on the GSX. I think we had a Silver one and a Blue one running around at the time. On the Hyundai front, just changed the timing belt on our 2002 Elantra (same engine as the coupe of the time) at the end of last year. This was in anticipation of increased use this year, and as predicted, it now has just broken the 12000 mile mark last week .

1980 was running around on a red AP50, with pedals. 'R' plate. Used it for going to school in Morecambe, in all weathers. Quicker than all my mates fizzies, even the purple one!
