The wife did hers 12 years ago. We bought the book and sample test questions and she did her homework and was asking me some of the questions. I hadn't got a clue! Even my educated guesses were wrong. Anyway she had to go to Wolverhampton to do the test and passed so got her residence visa.

I think everyone on here should be made to do it and anyone who gets less than 19 should be axed.

Wonder if we all got the same Questions?? Not sure about that, but I did it four times to see if the pool changes and I got all the same question so I guess not - What was the last battle between Great Britain and France?
- Which flower is associated with Wales?
- During the reign of Charles II parts of London were destroyed, what was the cause of this destruction?
- How often are general elections held in the UK?
- Scotland has its own banknotes, which are valid everywhere in the UK.
- What charity works to preserve important buildings, coastline and countryside in the UK?
- Great Britain refers only to England, Wales and Scotland.
- Who was the tribal leader who fought against the Romans?
- Who was voted the greatest Briton of all time in 2002?
- Which two houses form the UK Parliament?
- When did women get the right to vote at the same age as men?
- Who is the head of the Church of England?
- What sort of event is the Grand National?
- What type of literature are the Canterbury Tales?
- When is Christmas Day?
- Who supported King Charles I during the Civil War?
- What battle is commemorated in the Bayeux Tapestry?
- Where was Anne Boleyn, the wife of Henry VIII, executed?
- Racial crime and smoking in public places are examples of:
- What type of character was played by Charlie Chaplin?
- You have to be at least 21 years old to stand as MP.
- Who developed the radar?
- Where is the official home of the Prime Minister?
- By law, which TWO types of media have to give a balanced coverage of all political parties and equal time to rival viewpoints before an election?

took my bike test in 1992 so no theory back then, took my car test in2009 so I assumed I would need a theory test. went off to buy the book for a bit of swotting up, government version £30 (how much!) AA version £7 so bought that and spent 2 days learning about crossings that I'v never seen or heard of (before or since) and all the other bits and pieces. phoned up to book a theory test and was told 'oh you dont need one, your highway code questions on your bike test count'. predictably when I phoned to book a car test they didnt want to know without a theory test, so I told the lady at the other end of the phone to get in touch with the theory test department and sort it out amongst themselves, but in the meantime book my test please and amazingly she did, with no further argument.

The scottish currency one is interesting, as while Scottish Banknotes are legal currency – i.e. they are approved by the UK Parliament, they are not legal tender and do not have to be taken (even in Scotland - where only coins are in fact the only legal tender!).
