This story I am going to tell still infuriates me. Rona fancied a new bike. She liked the look of the KTM, on that I contacted our local Portman Motors who deal in KTM. I googled the website and phoned them, telling the fella that we would be over this Friday as we were both off on a Friday, simple enough i thought. The Friday we drove over to Portman motors for a perusal...the place was shut on a Friday at 13.30pm, all locked up. My mistake i thought. I phoned them the following Thursday to see if they would be open this Friday only to be told that they are closed Friday sat sun and Monday because of the Glasgow Fair. I asked if they had not long reopened because of covid 19 and he laughed and said aye, that's right. I then googled the nearest KTM dealer, Perth came up, so on the Saturday we drove to Perth to see one, this one infact. The salesman(owner) was busy selling someone a pair of boots, he seen us, couldn't really miss us but made no attempt at contact, not even eye contact. The fella didn't buy the boots but another chappie had walked in and was looking at the big 1290 super duke, next second the two of them were sat in chat with a coffee. I couldn't believe it, were we invisible. We started to walk out and a lass asked us if we needed help, i told her that we had phoned to say we were coming through but the sales chappe didnt seem to be bothered about us (her husband) We took a card and i told her we would email them some questions We did, that was two weeks ago on Sunday, No answer still. On that, I went onto the official KTM website, Saltire in Edinburgh sell them...wow I thought, we have bought stuff from them before, nice company, I emailed them...last Monday...guess what...still waiting on a reply. So KTM, you can take your bikes and do some shoving with them to where that sun dont shine. Rant over. Gee.

Appalling customer service Gee. No wonder a lot of these places go under.
Not bigging up the States as I think the UK is superior in many ways.....but.....that is one of the things the Americans are good at, customer service and sales.

Sounds like these places have lost a few grand. Who can afford to do that these days?
The stats guys say that if you receive good service somewhere you will tell 4 people. They then tell 4. And so on. BUT... If you receive bad service, you will tell 10 people and they tell 10 and so on. This was before the days of social media. I used to tell my staff to acknowledge customers, even if you are busy with another. Most people don't mind a 'be with you shortly'. A hard part of business is getting customers through your door.
In these modern times, a great way to get your problem attended to is via social media. ie. twitter and facebook. Forget emails. Usually you will get a standard reply apologising, noting your comments, passing it onto 'whoever' or other such nonsense. Email is internal, social media is very public.

True Nick, what bothers me is that I have had my own business and if I was off work due to covid 19, I would be working every hour to make up for it. It was the smirk i could feel in his voice "aye that's right" Plus the other clowns that are KTM sales. Will stick to Honda me thinks. Gee.

Andy1Kenobe wan, I so agree, I have been in sales most of my life, I lived on recommends. I am sure this is not a true indication of CS through out the UK, but 3 dealers, all KTM...they are history in my book and Rona's Gee.

I would have kicked that salesman's arse up and down the showroom had he been mine, then straight out the door never to return. Not a fan of Korean cars, cant fault them, but prefer their TV's. Gee
