So browsing the net again and stumbled on this, 10 minutes later my offer has been accepted π¬ Nice one Carl, lovely looking bike. Are the European models restricted compared to UK ? Most seem to be in great condition. Thanks Graeme, it arrives later this week so we shall see how nice it is in the flesh. The restriction question is a good one, as Pete has already said, I believe it is a lower power model as it has a black rocker cover, itβs said that the higher power model has a silver rocker cover. I asked Pete if there was a way of telling if itβs high or lower power and apparently if the engine number starts with 3 itβs low and if it starts with 2 itβs high. The red 400ND I recently imported from Germany has a engine number starting with 3 and a rocker cover that is silver, which obviously contradicts this statement. I will admit that the rocker cover could have been changed, but I doubt it. The fact that the power difference is significant 27 and 43, I believe, makes me think you would notice the difference. Pete has a German 400 that he believes has a lower powered engine, however he has said, it has a lot more power than his 250ND which are also 27bhp so itβs not making a lot of sense to me. I am meeting up with Pete later on this week, I will go on a 400 full power NC and see how it compares to Peteβs. I will report back later on in the week.

just a theory, but I dont think you'd go far wrong putting a 250 camshaft in a low power engine (good 400 camshafts can be a bit thin on the ground) the difference in lift is minimal between the uk 250's and 400's.

Just looking on CMSNL now - got two questions from all that has been written above.
1) I suspect the black rocker cover thing only applies to the euro CB400NB - not the NC or ND as from memory they all had the silver cover. (Polished alloy). 2) VIN numbers

The part number for rocker cover on the 20ps machine is 12300443790.
CMSNL parts image shows a cover with a black top and polished silver sides but I suspect that image is wrong - that rocker is off a CB450DX or equivalent by the looks. So we need to find what a genuine 790 is like....I am suspecting it was indeed the all back cover. Bear with.
