Not SD related but there is a bike in it.
My Dad and his friends pictured with a bike and tank somewhere in Africa during the Second World War. He was in the Tank Regiment. He is the man second from the right.
He made it through to the end and very, very rarely spoke about it.
So this is just a thanks to him and the others that have served.

VE day party in Templeborough Rotherham a few family members present but my Dad and my Uncles were all still overseas. Great photo. I love old photos like this made especially better with some family history.
It was so true that so many of the celebrations were without loved ones that had either survived, but had not yet returned. My Dad was demobbed on 12 December 1946 from the Catterick camp. Even though he rarely spoke of his service, he kept some of his records, his pay book and soldiers release book, for example and some photos. He never applied for his medals. It wasn't until a few years after he died that we applied for them so I do have them now. I also have one medal that was his fathers from the First World War. My mothers father was a medic in WW1 so I can only imagine the horrors he saw.
I do intend to delve further into my Dads history and also my both my Grandfathers. I want to be able to pass it onto my children.
There are also the celebrations tinged with sadness due to lost loved ones.
