I have been diagnosed with sleep apnoea at the weekend, it means I have to sleep with a CPAP machine which will keep me breathing at night!!
Does anyone else suffer this condition, how did you get on after the introduction of the CPAP and did you start feeling better?

Mostly I suffer with tiredness, after I get home from work I really don't have enough energy to do anything else so sit and watch tv most nights. If I do push myself then the next day can be a real struggle for me and weekends when I'm with the kids I get totally wiped.
It's been going on for several yrs now along with the weight gain, so it's been progressive and not that noticeable until the last 2 yrs when my snoring has gotten so bad the other half no longer spends the whole night with me!!
Hopefully after a few months of good sleep I might have enough energy to do something in the evening to shift a bit of weight!!
Currently I'm running the risk of heart attack, stroke, hypertension, diabetes type 2 and something else I've forgotten. So at least I have something to look forward too!!!!

Sorry to hear this Daz!!!
Hope you get yourself sorted soon mate - there are too many SD's out there want rescuing to be sat around watching the box
If it is any consolation, I suffered a mild heart attack about 18 months ago now - made me realise a few things I can tell you (but still haven't given up the weed unfortunately ).
Take it easy fella - do as the witch-doctor tells you, and you will soon be right as rain... smiley-signs007

Thanks Carl. My catch phrase had all ways been "I'm fat and I'm lazy" turns out it should have been "I'm tired cause I don't sleep properly!" I need to give up food, alcohol and fags, I don't smoke, only drink a couple of pints a week so giving up food will hurt a bit! Hopefully I will be a different person in a few months time with a few good night's under my belt!!

Hello Daz, thought you might find this encouraging...a biker mate of mine has sleep apnoea, he wears his face mask for about 4 hours every night, he says it's made him a new man, he can't praise it enough. He also has a small portable 12 volt one that fits in his GS1200 back box, he uses it on bike camping, holidays and in his motorhome. He tells me there are really good sleep apnoea forums for fellow sufferers.

Thanks Gordy, I have read on a forum some success stories which are encouraging to say the least, people experience weight loss better moods more alertness and general well being after using the CPAP machine I downloaded an app for my phone yesterday to record noises at night, my snoring is off the scale!!! no wonder my other half sleeps in a different room and can still hear me through the walls, I imagine people passing by the house can hear me too!!

Best of luck with it- be sure to stay in control of your destiny though. I think I was headed towards Apnoea last year- never snored in my life and then the missus started complaining. Turned out my lifestyle had changed- spending all day in meetings, conf calls- in front of a computer. Gave up my action man lifestyle to keep the business going. And of course getting older. Weighed myself one day and horrified to see I was headed towards 100kg in weight. Made myself eat properly (less!) and now go swimming 3 times a week. Lost 15kg already. And now the snoring has stopped- never would have believed it would affect it- but it does. And the SD goes faster now too!

I went back to see the doctor Tuesday, what a waste of time that was, turned up 10 minutes before my appointment time only to be told that they are running an hour late, waited for 1 hour 10 minutes before going in and spent less than 5 minutes with the doctor. He basically told me I have sleep apnoea (nurse told me this when I did the first sleep study!!) and gave me a form to make another appointment for a night visit and fitting for a CPAP machine. The lady who makes the appointments was leaving just as I left so I now have to wait for an appointment to be sent to me I wouldn't mind but its nearly an hours drive from home and was very late in the day, I left at 3:30 and got back at 7:00!!! Still, I'm looking forward to a good nights sleep soon...............

Well I had my fitting for my CPAP machine last night, another night on the ward hooked up to a strange machine and trying to sleep in a tiny little bed. I now have my machine and I have to say it was VERY uncomfortable! I had a bit of a panic attack after an hour or so as it was forcing so much air in that I was panting to try and keep up, I also felt the nurse in the room (No not like that!) during the night making adjustments to the mask. I know I will get used to it but I looked like Darth Vadar and found it difficult to drop off to sleep, I do feel a bit rested although I was up at 5:50 this morning and in at work at 7:20 (there was no point in going home first!) so hopefully in a few weeks after some good nights things will get better. The nurse said I am that bad I should wear it in the evening whilst watching TV, I think I will give that a miss and go for a walk instead to try and loose a bit of weight, its bad enough having to have to wear it in bed let alone on the sofa whilst cuddling the missus!!

Terry, I used to have a beautiful Jack Russell bitch and spent many a happy hour surfing, walking, cycling and camping with her alongside I lost her when she was 14yrs old (about 5yrs ago) and have never really felt like having another dog.
She was good and well behaved it would be difficult to expect another dog to behave in the same way, plus my daughter is so hyperactive and hamfisted the poor thing wouldn't know which way it would be going!!
