No, Jeremy Corbyn has not joined the forum. I just wanted to share my thought process about the restoration of the second bike. You see I needed parts, expensive parts. Then I looked at the price of the parts again, and the price of, I don't know, say a complete bike as a spares ship. (Can anyone see where this may be going yet ?) Anyway I saw one on ebay and I threw in an idle bid (what you might pay for a refurb set of forks, rear grab handles, fork top headlight brackets and a set of clocks)..... and "Lo, it came to pass" that I bought it.... and it was good.... very good. The problem is that it is so good, damn it I will have to build this one too .....AAaawwww s*it, how did that happen. I am going to need some dating though as it has had a registration change.Frame no- CB250N-2102459. I think it was all black originally, but any info out there ? Here are the pictures, what would you do with it ?? Even has the 1979 top box...

Q Reg - means indeterminable age or the previous keeper could not be bothered to do some investigation Don't go to the VJMC for a dating - DVLA would not accept it from me write to Honda who will give you a letter like below Cost of letter was £35 I think From the frame no the model is an NA which tallies with the shape of the tank and no reflectors on the headlamp - I suspect a V reg

I agree, absolute bargain. If you can get the Q plate changed, which I don’t think you will, fingers crossed for you. I would also guess a V reg.

I had a TDR250 on a Q plate and DVLA just replied saying once a q plate had been issued it could not be changed. That was in the mid 90’s so I hope duffer has better luck and things have changed at dvla.

I will check with DVLA tomorrow about the Q plate issue, but the bike looks very genuine to me having split two of them down to bare metal. As you can see, all the right bits are in all the right places and look age related with the exception of the tank which is badly painted (Not a problem) but otherwise clean. The cables and wires all seem to be routed correctly and all the electrics work with no faults. I will report back about the Q plate as soon as I can, and thanks for the lead about contacting Honda, I would have thought even the DVLA would be happy with that.

Certainly looks too good to break for parts. Wouldn't it be easier to do what the p.o. probably couldn't be bothered to do & just ditch the current registration & start from scratch with a dating certificate from Honda & get it registered with an age related number ?

Right, a chat with the DVLA revealed that they would normally only take an application from the owner that changed the plate and only within 12 months of that change. However, they would consider my application if accompanied with a reasoned case for change of status and proof from the manufacturer regarding date and details of manufacture. So following the advice from Pete I contacted Honda who were very helpful and sent me this email which I will now follow ;-
Thank you for contacting Honda (UK).
In order to obtain Year of Manufacture details for your motorcycle, you will need to apply in writing to the following address:
Motorcycle Operations

Honda (UK)

When requesting this document, please provide the following information:
• Model type

• Engine number
• Your postal details
• Your contact details – telephone number and email
There is an administration fee of £30 (£25 + VAT) which can be paid by cheque or postal order made payable to Honda (UK).
Please note that this can take up to 6 weeks if the information needs to be sourced from Japan.

I would agree its to good to strip down , early na frame number so maybe late 79 early 80 speedo is off nb so that would explain why switch gear cables not correctly routed and some ones got throttle cables wrong side of fork leg also brake hose got sept 79 date stamp on it so that says may be reg end of 79 also she's got a 400 headlight fitted so come on duffer get her back on the road keep the icon alive

You lot have eyes like the proverbial shit house rat ! It is too good to break up and I think it deserves a colour change during a light and sympathetic restoration to retain as much originality, whilst still cleaning it up. I thought it would look a bit good in the Blue ? (I expect this may cause some reaction along the lines of "Only if you want to slow it down" ...?)
