Anybody on here dabbled in the dark arts of home brewing at all?? i used to brew all the time, but then since the new bambino came along I didn't have the time. Since clearing out the attic in anticipation of the house move a few weeks ago (or "loft", if you're posh, I.e a non-Wiganer ), I came across all my old gear, AND a tinned kit of Scottish Export bitter that was 2 yrs out of date. Not being one to throw owt out (it's in a tin, it's safe), I decided to make a brew up using it. I bought a new pack of yeast, because that CAN go off over time. Long a story short, I'm currently sampling a glass of it, and by heavens it's good!! It made me realise how much I enjoyed making it, but the sterilising is a bit of a ball-ache. All I need to do is train our toddler up to sterilise bottles, and we'll get a right production line sorted! Anyone else dabbled in home grog at all??

I have a cousin who engages in this mate (so I've heard).....but I've never done it myself, to date.
Is it a bit like electroplating at home, do you think?

Funny you should say that Nicholas... That is my plan for the German downpipes I'm bidding on if the coke and tin foil doesn't work!
The principal is almost exactly the same! Albeit with a battery charger and a sacrificial metal thrown into the mix. Already got my large oil pan ready for it (to dispose of the detritus safely)

I used to home brew quite a bit some years ago . Mainly larger and bitter using kits. Managed to find a couple of old metal beer barrels and Co2 cylinder and always had some on tap. Even tried running some bitter through a pressure cooker on the rayburn ,then heard that some folks had killed themselves trying to brew wood alcohol so it went straight down the drain (those were the days)

I remember my mates first attempt at homebrew it was a kit and he'd followed all the instructions he had it all boiling up nicely he turned to me and said what next,I said we have to filter all the crap out so he promptly dumped all his beer down the sink and presented me with a collander full of crap I've never let him forget it
