couldnt resist this at £15 bit of surface rust but I'm confident it will clean up ok, bit of wear through the plating on the key but hell its probably 40 years old so I can live with that. also bought this from the same seller, not exactly a bargain at £30 but despite the grotty appearance it is actually very solid

did a little bit more with the wheels (more to follow on that soon) but as I'm on holiday this week thought I'd nip down to the local bearing factor for new wheel bearings (£28 for front and rear, but at least you know the quality). I'm guessing everyone knows this trick for how to set a deep bearing. I slice through the old bearing with the angle grinder and a thin cutting disc then give it a squeeze in the vice then use that to tap the new bearing home, then just pull the old one out with pliers

had a dig through various nighthawk bits and found this fairly grotty looking thing free photo hostdespite the appearance its fairly sound and I think I can rescue the heat shields too, the only fly in the ointment is that a quick search on cms shows its specific to the 86 nighthawk so it may not fit (it might also be persuaded to fit, I own a fine selection of hammers)

the tail light has suffered some abuse over the years and sadly (cos I'm a tight git) is beyond repair, broken internal plastic, one of the female lens threads missing etc amazingly the lens is ok (probably a pattern replacement) so another thing to add to the shopping list. its getting to be a long list...

bits and bats done with the plastics airbox cleaned inside and out, already had a nice new filter so just washed and oiled, then decided I couldnt look at the old screws so replaced with stainless I had thought the clocks were going to be nice and easy but it never works like that does it? so screws/bolts replaced, plastics cleaned up, mounting bracket resprayed and new bulbs on order for the idiot lights finally the rear mudguard gubbins got a replacement rear as mine had been cut but sadly its got no reflector at the bottom (Ill sort that later) still need a stay (probably get a stainless one) and that middle piece is a pattern replacement but at least it wont go rusty 80's plastics and 80's product

I knew about the mot required one in the back light from years back when I blacked the lens on my old 350 cafe racer, had to make sure the reflector stayed red.
