time to delve in to the german brakes, calliper stew anyone? and the rest of the bits ready for a good clean, got to love that meticulous german attitude, every clip present and correct as it should be

a load of bead blasting and a bit of umming and ahhing over what colour the uk brackets should be. after consulting cms they appear to be black so I'm going with that (convenience as much as anything) only slight problem the black I bought isnt very black so hopefully some better stuff coming off ebay and I'll treat the coat that they have as primer. one almost silver lining, the pots were knackered so I was able to use them as masking for both blasting and spraying. new ones on the way

not much progress I'm afraid, back to work full time and stacked off my feet. managed to accumulate a few bits and pieces though, pattern bits and bobs for the front brakes exhaust bracket from john (again many thanks) lefthand pipe from gazw (cheers gaz) and righthand pipe from german ebay my current issue is I'm in 7 days self isolation and cant do anything (restricted to house and garden only) its going to be a boring week

I'll see how they go mark, they might pair up ok with SD discs or they might not. best chance combination I ever hit on was PFM rotors and AP racing (cheapest road compound I could find) on my old A2 ninja, single pot calipers and you couldnt use more than two fingers on the lever. the only brakes I ever used that bit harder were on an fz600 fazer, but they were wooden and had no feel

having a hard time with bolts, I got two a while back from this ebay supplier for the starter motor and they matched the engine bolts almost perfectly but now they seem to have changed the design and these are what arrived no use for the SD as they dont have that little lip on the bolt head, oh well chuck them in the bits and bobs box and try another supplier, I'll email them first this time...

decided to do a bit of brake building this afternoon, so put the calipers back together with their new pads and all went pretty straight forward (had to tickle the edges of one of the pads with a file, but no real problem). then onto the master cylinder, went to fit the spring and first seal and it turns out I'm trying to build a 400 plunger/seals into a 250 master cylinder (I know, I should have checked) so then had to dismantle the german one with the (very) seized lever. eventually managed to get the lever out with a junior hacksaw, quite a lot of care not to damage the master cylinder and the lever and bolt ended up in the scrap department. then onto the lovely job of getting that bloody circlip out, half an hour of swearing later and its stripped and hooray its a 'proper' 400 master cylinder. just needs cleaning, blasting and painting...
