ok recovery job and confession time. I tried painting in the details on the engine covers and frankly made an arse of it. I took bodie's (good) advice and tried an artists brush, 2 things to note, 1 its important to have some skill with the artists brush and 2 you should probably pay more than £1.99 for a set of artists brushes. so having failed with the brush I remembered duffer saying he used a cocktail stick, so dug one out and had a go, I found it easier but I still lack technique/temperament/ability for jobs like this. I wasnt prepared to share that image until I'd done a bit of a recovery job (used to polish metal industrially for a living) not totally perfect but I'm happy enough with them now

Could you not use an aerosol? Then use wire wool and a bit of the fun juice to mop up?
It's what I have done before with pleasing results. Looks okay though, as you say.

Not much help at this point but having seen Jessups making black/silver numberplates I adopted their technique . Put plenty of paint in the letters , then with a cloth soaked in thinners held over a wooden block just run over the area . Does a very good job in about 2 minutes

painting the frame take two, the wisdom of the internet would suggest that its possible to brush 2k paint and they are probably right if you can mix it well enough and apply it reasonably quickly, problem is I mixed it too thin for brushing and made an arse of it. so with the better weather I was able to make some much needed space and then sprayed a couple of bits (obviously after rubbing everything back down and re priming)

just a few more little bits and bats to paint and then I can begin the swearing, sorry I meant putting the bike back together . just need a still day (did a few bits with the garage door shut, bad idea no matter how good your mask is). also just picked these up from a local zinc plater. I only dropped them off yesterday afternoon, the chap didnt seem interested in plating them for me until I told him that I used to polish metal for a living and once I'd explained how I'd prepped them (cleaned on a wire wheel in the drill then scrubbed in solvent based degreaser with scotchbrite) he changed his tune completely and told me to bring them down

farting about with seats. I'v decided this bike is going to have two liveries, 1 that I like (and everyone else probably wont ) and 1 the way it should be. with that in mind I'v decided to do two seats for it. it came with a plastic based pattern jobby that didnt seem to fit properly (never properly investigated as I didnt intend to use it) so I sourced this (much more solid than it might look) from germany, its one of those parts that I (reluctantly) had to stump up for, about £70 delivered the only fly in the ointment is that appears that the previous owner was herr von smallhausen so robbed another foam from a later type seat (yet another, got more SD seats than I know what to do with) and I think it should be ok when its covered

switched jobs from seats to investigating my german tank (just under £30 delivered) grotty brush paint job but I'v not yet seen anything thats bothering me too much. then spent a fruitless half a day waiting for crappy eco friendly paint stripper to do its thing (which it didnt) and so I did what I should have done in the first place and ordered some proper stuff. the plastics are actually ok as they are with the thick of the blue stuff off, they should rub down from here to a point where they can be painted. the tank though needs to down to bare metal so it can be properly checked, also took on board what duffer said about filler (if it needs it) taking better to bare metal. more on this when the paint stripper arrives
