bit more preparation, honed the barrels and cleaned up the pistons ready for new rings still need more work cosmetically, I'll have to see if I can find some fins under the oil, gunk and corrosion...

started on the cylinder head, 1st job strip the valves out, bag and label them. then removed the exhaust studs (the tool I bought for that is worth its weight in gold) and began de-coking the only other thing I'v done today is give the whole lot a bit of a degreasing before putting it away for the night. onto lapping the valves but thats a job for tomorrow

No MOT history so looks like it has possibly been off the road since before 2006. Nice project. Looking forward to the progress Buster. found the ebay pics still cant believe it only got one bid at £475 if it had been stripped down in boxes idiots would have been tripping over themselves to bid on it I may put this to the test, I have a 400 kicker T reg tax class registered historic this year. It’s in pieces if I can find them all, so do I put what I have in boxes and drop it on eBay?

and you did an amazing job on the 400/4 but £540 for that superdream? the only thing in its favour that I can see is (supposedly) low mileage, but if its seized I'd consider that totally irrelevant as it would be a full engine build anyway. dont get me wrong, I always like to see another one 'rescued' but I think there are better project bikes out there for a lot less money

i have bought similar for a lot less, believe me you'll be lucky to find something to salvage here, let alone restore or restore as a complete bike, i wouldnt be surprised if the winning bidder ends up with just a box of dodgy parts and the two wheels

It’s well dodgy
At 3k miles even standing 30 years the idiot lights would not be that worn

still awaiting engine parts so decided to get stuck in to polishing the three casings. to say they were rough is an understatement roughing out then started flatting off with 240 wet and dry but ran out of elbow grease for today

The rocker cover is probably the most difficult, probably why only the ends were polished originally.

well done Buster - looks like the sort of thing to keep you busy in these bloody painful times - enjoy fixing her up - any plans on colour change? T
