Well they look ok, BUT... time to get them into bits... I think the dsb coloured one has the most potential. Please pardon my ignorance. But what is DSB?

Wow, quick work. Did you get the frame back to clean metal with angle grinder & wire brush? Mega impressed! The 12v wires in that connector picture are regularly bodged, I think the relatively high current accelerates corrosion.

DSB Deep Sahara Bronze. What else ? Having much appreciation for the colour I plan to use a more vibrant metallic candy red as I get around to painting (The bit I should be good at) The frame was stripped with 120 grit discs on a dual action sander, wire wheels and grinder for the rusty stuff. It has now been etch primed in preparation for 2 pack gloss black. Finally it will be injected with waxoyl. I have ordered a replacement wiring loom to help fix the electrics. Bits I could do with some help on - Forks are pitted and leaking. Exhaust is a 2 into one with dents. These seem to be made out of vast sums of money or unobtainium. Any help would be welcome. Nice work. I might try that method on my wife's 250RS frame when i get round to rebuilding it. As for fork tubes, the options are good used ones (unlikely), new (David Silvers,patterns or nos for the later bushed forks on NBs on, patterns only for the Ns) or hard chroming yours. I've done both the latter 2 on my 400s. The N's were too far gone, so I got patterns, but I got the NAs re-chromed. Not much difference price wise, although it seems to be reckoned modern hard chroming is more hard wearing than the original process. So that's £1oo plus, and it doesn't get any better with the exhaust, although you've probably got a chance of finding a decent second hand Motad 2 into 1 cheapish. A 2 into 2 is going to be £250ish for replica parts, but the heat shields for the collector box are NLA & decent used one's are expensive. I got round the heat shield problem on my 400N by using a couple of exhaust kick ups from ClassicBikeShop, which were also a bit cheaper than a collector box, but there were some issues - honda-superdream.co.uk/thread/10031/fitting-new-exhaust-system-problems?page=4 I've seen pictures of an SD with kick ups that have a socket at the silencer end as well so would fit the SD silencers, but I don't know where they were from

Keep your fork components safe, the hex inner bolt arrgt at the top of the stanchion/spring are rare items as well. Www.pittedforks.co.uk philpots did a great hard chrome job on the stanchions I sent them last year turn around was about 6 weeks Though they had quoted longer.

I may have been quiet here, but I have been busy with the two pack. A bit of rubbing revealed the true colours of both bikes which is candy bourgogne red just as I had hoped for at least one of them to be. Picked up the paint which has a base coat of silver first, then red. It should ping out rather than the dull bronze it is at present. Problems now found ;- some corrosion inside one tank. I have seen some washes for fixing this, but has anyone any recent experience ? I am also building up a shopping list and have spotted David Silver Spares, any good ? I need things like rear shocks, front mudguard, chain, brake bits decals, seat cover, new chrome nuts and bolts etc etc. I am trying to work to a bit of a budget so I am restricted. Any ideas much appreciated. If it helps direct me, I will be going to Stafford Show. Kind regards to all Duffer

Paint work looks great, projects coming on nicely. There's been a few threads on tank repairs over the years. First thing is how rusty is the tank? If it's just light surface rust, an anti-rust solution should suffice, but if it's more serious you need to try & remove as much flaky stuff as possible. I put a load of clean nuts in mine & shook it about every time I walked past it, but I remember someone a while back putting theirs in a cement mixer to rotate it for a while! Then it's a bit of shaking & some assistance with a magnet to get everything out. My 250 tank still has the magnet in it after it came of the end of it's 'stalk' As for rust killing stuff, I've used brick acid diluted with water about 50%. It's cheap, but flash rusts very quickly after draining. Others have used white vinegar, but there's plenty of dedicated rust killing solutions available, which might be better. Thanks for the info. I do have an endoscope and it looks like freckles of rust inside on fairly clean silver surface, but I will strip to bare metal outside to check for any penetration. The bag of bolts is a great idea. Forgot to say, the "scaffolding" in the picture of the primed up frame is my solution to the second bike frame having been hacked about with at the back behind the top shock mounts. The frame I am now working on is all good and original so I made the internal scaffold frame to confirm several bolt locations. I intend to swap the internal scaffold to the next bike to see if the previous owners ( Messrs Bodge-it, ripoff and leg-it) had their measurements better than it looks like they did. My solution, but if there are any better ideas I would like to know.
