Hi folks.
I'm still having fun customising an 89 DX-K and I'd like to thank you guys again for welcoming me and for helping me out last year with the electrics (a previous keeper had hacked through the entire loom - presumably after a front-ender).
When I acquired this bike, it was in a sorry state - the tank, seat, downpipes/box and clocks were all rusted through, the tyres were destroyed, the wiring was..... complicated. It sat in the shed for 18 months until my son asked if we could 'play' with it - oh, the folly of youth. What the hell. I agreed. Always wanted to do a full custom/restyle and now I had my son to blame for the time and cost ;-)
It's now a complete bike and in regular use but I'm doing away with the 80s Euro styling and moving it more to a basic, bare bike of old - a street scrambler with Bonne envy, if you will.
A more rounded (not peanut) tank is in order and I'm hoping you guys could help with possible suspects with a suitable tunnel and general fit for the DX. Preferably Honda (Dream perhaps?)
Cheers people.
Tony.

(PS. I have played around with a couple of cheap import tanks but not happy with either - plus, they've both been 9Ltr, which is just big enough to get to the garage and back :-) )

Can't be certain but I think a Dream tank should fit nice enough and then you can worry about how the side panels will fit

I'v gone the other way round and put a dx tank on my cafe racer, front mounting rubbers were ok but had to restrict the steering lock a bit so the bars didnt hit the tank also had to make a new rear mount as the dx tank is longer. if you turn all that on its head then you might have to do a bit more messing about than you thought to get a dream tank to fit. how about a cx tank? just thinking they may be easier to find

Had my eye on a couple of Dream tanks - that's the shape I'm after - just not yet convinced about the tunnel and fit. Currently working on two pairs of panels - one in chequer plate and the other in rosewood.

What's your base bike? Your project sounds interesting - I'll show you mine if you show me yours?

Your project sounds interesting - I'll show you mine if you show me yours? the base bike was going to be a 450 nighthawk but the geometry is too slow for me so I'm building the 450 engine into superdream (mostly) running gear. theres a thread on here the born meddler. always interesting to see someone elses take on the cafe/tracker

hi Tony (great name mate?) i now have 2 DX'x one basically as it came out the crate - meaning stock and working more or less not totally restored the other - well this is my "what is there to do in the garage to get me out from under my wifes feet and stop getting on at my 16 year old son for wasting his time on the playstation" anyhow i have fitted a CM rear and home made (read wheely bin) light holder! car fog lights, and transalp crashbars all duly modified! question is How did you get on with fitting a more rounded tank - i dont particularly like the square coffin style tank - there was mention of a CX tank maybe being close (hi Buster) - did you fit one?? i am just painting my frame (hammerite seems to last really well in the horrible stuff they put on our roads)
cheers all
