Does anyone know much about Ford Transits of this vintage? (2001) And what would one like this sell for? This one I keep seeing parked up locally for £1250. Looked a bit rusty underneath - pretty sure I could see a hole near the back wheel on a box section. Do they suffer with corrosion under there quite commonly? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Rot boxes mate. Reliable enough but once they start rusting them they dont last long. The price seems about right.
(My old employer ran a fleet of 30 of them for a while. They now use Renaults)

We looked at a fair few when looking at campervans before we bought our last one. In the end, we avoided versions based on Trannies... Body panels straight n shiny, underneath each and every one of them was absolutely shocking. One that sticks in my mind was 5 yrs old at the time, and had been patched on the chassis! If you're dead-set on getting a van, have a look for either an Iveco Daily, or a Renault Master/Vauxhall Movano - they always looked solid underneath. VW's are fine too, but they tend to be pricey due to demand from surfer wannabe's

Just to add - in pic no. 4 (the one of the chassis) - that rot is coming from the inside of the box section out!! Look at how each of the pinholes are in the centre of a wider ring of rust staining... Tap that with a toffee-hammer, n it'll go straight through

as you know fb I have spent a year trying to find the right van, that tranny will have the banana engine in wich are very good.but the bodys and chassis rot like hell. vivaro, traffic and primastar are galv bodys so no rust mate, and I have seen plenty of 2000 /2001 trannys for £700 to £800

A shop near Euston Station used to sell stuff for trannies. Opps, wrong type of trannie! PS No I did not use it, just used to live near there.

Whats with this thread anyway? Are you planning on getting a van? At this stage, not seriously, no. But I would like to purchase a van at some stage to move bikes / parts around I guess - keep seeing this old transit for sale and was just curious about them. I've hired old trannies before and enjoyed them.....they have bags of character. (Please be careful how you interpret that last sentence).

Get a bike trailer instead, much more practical no tax or mot and if you customise it you could still cart your spares about.
