I decided to buy some tasty bits for the bike, but i wont be keeping them all :-( I just cant afford to, the missus hit the roof (ok so my timing is awful... should have spent the money towards the wedding, but that's not till next year) I will be keeping this beauty And this I'm not sure about this one its a Hepco and Beker for the deluxe, and its extremely good. That's all i wanted to start with but ended up buying the rest at the same time. The lever is in much better condition than mine. I don't think i'll be putting the fender on just yet, the bikes kept outside and its going to be raining for the next week. I love the smoothness of it. Its only since i've been on here that I found out the aftermarket ones were the wrong shape. I've only ever seen the aftermarket chrome or those sporty plastic ones.

Mate - you've done the right thing........that mudguard is a must if the passion is there. Well done. Are you buying these bits from the Crazy Bird?

I wish i was, those ears would have been perfect. There was an SD deluxe being broken in Germany on ebay, my bits were the most expensive apart from the engine. The near mint side rails I bought a few months ago were from crazy bird and they are good.

Any ideas on the best way to stop the rust on the underside of the fender, its a little worse than surface but not much.would be nice to halt it though.

There are many things you can do.
Waxoyl it....or rub it down gently and spray it with a silver paint and then clear lacquer it.......or just leave it as it is with sexy minor rust.
You're not exactly going to be everyday commuting on it with that on it, are you?

Well I am commuting on it, but i'm not sure when I should fit my good chrome. its a difficult decision to make. Its a shame to have the bits and not use them, but its a shame to use them and ruin them.

The last everyday Super dream commuter I saw riding a 250N with a decent genuine front fender on it was on the 16th June 1987.
Enough said.

I expect the inside of those front muddys were rusty at the end of week 1 from new.
I wire brushed and used spray Hammerite silver on the inside of mine.
No commuting. If it rains I go out in the car, or not at all.....

I think hammerite may be the way to go as they promise an 8 years gaurantee........as to not riding in the wet.........you gunna have fun in wales!! ( I mean GB )
my sd lives outside but has a small cover over the headlight, handlebars and switches as well as the ( most important!!!! ) tank filler cap. nothing in wales in flat, even angelsey, so the tank cap recess turns into a swimming pool ( bike pointing up hill ) with water entering the tank thru the air vents......hence small cover.
I do have a big cover but when its raining when I get home I just dont wanna go back outside after the engine has cooled and cover it up. call me lazy.....but my waterproofs are off by then and I've a pannad ( cuppa ) in hand........
ps copper grease the mudguard bolts well........

It's at times like these I wish I had a shed or garage. As for commuting, I never used to ride in the wet, but the sd is a genuine joy to ride so have been using it in all weathers. Maybe that needs some revision. Just a shame not to use it.

There's no reason not to use it. It's the winter (salt) that kills them. Enjoy it.
