If it is a really early example, then a resto could well be worthwhile............
How early is it? Do we have a database of frame numbers related to age - and what is the earliest one we have on here?

On the darker side it was a blue 400 kicker.
The frame and engine will be 20000** if one of the earliest.

Thanks for all the input so far, I am still in the bidding on the bike. I didn't check to see how early it was when I viewed it, but am not doing it to make money on anyway. My main reasons were simply that it's.a project I want and it is close enough to view and if I do win itI won't have to mess around getting it transported. Fingers crossed the bidding doesn't get too mad.

Have checked out the vin and engine numbers, both 3 figures so looks pretty early.

Yeah, sorry, could have been a bit clearer! Dont have the sellers say so to give out the number.

No don't worry.
Good luck - hope you get it.
Have you viewed it?

Yeah, I viewed it last weekend, thats what prompted my interest and got me joining up here! The phrase 'rough as a badgers arse' pretty much sums it up! I think it needs saving though. Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2

Yeah - needs saving for sure.
It is rough yes but I'm sure you can save it.
Did you own an early one back in the day?

I've never owned an SD, had a G5 back in the day, bought it for £40 with a siezed engine from my journeyman when I was serving my time in the local garage, doesn't seem much of a bargain now! Rebuilt the top end and used it for about a year. I can temember my neighbour bringing home his spanking new SD in 1980 like it was yesterday, I was 9 then! Edit. Just put my g5 reg through the DVLA and it was last taxed in 1983, I was using it in 1988! Ooops! OSA 804R
