Never really been into these. Lovely iconic Honda though, just never my own personal bag. Those sweeping pipes across the engine are simply iconic.
Came close to buying a yellow one when I was looking for a 400 Superdream in 1997. Recall I went to view it right near Kew Gardens in London, from memory the seller had owned it from new. A used bike with 40 odd K on the clocks but he had certainly looked after it.

I can remember backing the early 80,s when I started being into bikes watching the bikers and the 400/4 was very popular the sweeping 4-1 exhaust was gorgeous my first job was as a maintenance fitter and there were quite a few bikers at work , one had a 400-4 , I liked the size of the bike , there were a few 750kz,s a GS 850 a massive Kwak 1100 I think and a few more , oh a Suzi er250 trailer , c90 or 5 , my favourite was the 400-4.... At this time I,d never owned a SD but wanted a 250 when I was 17 as this was the limit untill you,d passed your test ....

The 400/4 is very popular with Old duffers in the VMCC due to it’s size and electric start, other small Jap bikes being used by them too.

That is a beauty! My CB450K is now VMCC eligible too though I have only ever seen one at a local event plus a couple of CB400As. None as attractive as the 400/4 in my view but the torque delivery of the twins makes them more usable on the grubby country lanes often chosen for VMCC runs.

Agree there Bugsy, recall my 550/4 was Unrideable on snow but my brothers CX500 was great on soft snow,we were mad in those days riding on snow and ice lol Dave, in the days between Christmas and New Year 1984 I rode back home from my parents place near Wrexham to Trent Bridge in Nottingham, in ice and snow and bitter cold. I had a Suzuki GSX 400 twin at the time and it looked after me that day though I am told I looked about 90 when I arrived. The bike went in the outhouse and I swore I wouldn't expose myself to that sort of trial again and haven't thank goodness. We were nuts weren't we? Actually I had no other transport at the time but how things have changed eh?
