Guys/gals As well as absolutely gagging to get hold of another CB400NC, I want to show my sincere intent to the club by offering my services free. For over 25 years, I have been designing and supplying gauge overlay faces (not the cheap floppy vinyl stuff!) to both the public and retail outlets. I started off catering for the mass VW GTI craze in the 80's, but now purely concentrate on classic bikes. I have 1000's on file but have yet to do any Super Dream models, mainly due to the fact hat I haven't been asked! However, I'm sure we all know how the red sector can fade on some market regions, and am offering on a first come first serve basis, a free gauge face refresh. I would like to cover ALL CB250N and CB400N variants so if you would like yours done for just the cover of postage then please let me know. Here is some of my work: Kind regards, Will

That's a great offer Will, and you've made a terrific job of those clocks. I pulled my 400N speedo apart a while a go when it stopped working - made a bit of a mess, broke the glass (pinched one off a spare rev counter) & mangled the rim a bit. I eventually got it back together & working, then noticed I'd scratched a bit of paint off the needle . Needless to say, I'm impressed with yours!

I don't know what your budget is.......but if you are really keen to get hold of a good 400NC, have you considered the possibility of getting one over from Germany?
It was a popular model in Germany and there really are some nice examples still kicking about. They are quite thin on the ground here in nice condition now - unless they are enthusiast owned, in which case they are often not for sale.
Just something to consider if you are gagging, as you've said.

Very Smart Hmm.... very tempting that. If it was the black model I seriously think I'd go for it, but as a paint job and decals would set me back a bit, I'll see what "bog monsters" appear at Stafford next weekend! As for the many questions about "How do you remove the gauge crimp rings without damaging them", it's quite easy when you know how. I wrap the outer rim with cloth tape then tighten a worm drive clip around the circumference, this will stop the crimp ring deforming when prising open. Then you carefully, and a bit at a time, work the crimp ring outwards all the way round, just enough to allow the gauge body to release from the crimp ring. I simply use a flat-blade screwdriver to do this and have done literally 100's. When forming the crimp ring back into the rolled position, you simply do a bit at a time. Don't try to fold it over all in one go! I typically push the crimp ring over a tiny bit at a time in 5mm intervals. After that you keep going around at smaller and smaller intervals, pushing the crimp ring over a little more each time until it gives a uniform flush appearence. Remember that the underside of the crimp ring you are working on will not be seen anyway once the gauges are mounted back in the black plastic housing. Patience is what you need as it takes a fair amount of time to do it. Naturally anyone wanting their gauges done, I would prefer the owner to have already removed the crimp rings and just supply the actual gauge faces to me, so all I have to do is make the gauge overlays for you. However, for a small fee I will do the whole job on both gauges. Just to reiterate what I am offering: - You supply just the gauge faces to me; Cost = £3.50 including return postage (signed for)
- You supply the complete instument binnacle (or both complete gauges); Cost = £33 including return postage (signed for)
Once I have them all on file then I can offer them on the club forum at a discounted rate to you all. I'm no expert on Super Dream clocks, but I believe there are the 100mph variants (CB250NA plus CB250NB/C), the 110mph variants (CB400NA, CB400NB then CB400NC) all different in style and colours. I will also cater for km/h versions if anyone needs them. Kind regards, Will

Very simple idea and I am kicking myself did not think of it when I replaced the face on my Tacho this was the jig I made The clip around the rim would have made a big difference Thanks for sharing
