Would it be worth trying to scrub it with some thinners and a scotchbrite to clean the switch up to get rid of those dirty marks, maybe a scotchbrite and some vinegar might do it, obviously your switch has faded in colour over tiime and you just want to freshen it up, i thought red printer ink was a good idea as the plastic would absorb it and give it a matte uniform finnish, maybe worth a go harold, if it doesnt work you could always rob the wifes best nail varnish.

I will give the Scotchbrite a go Stevie and like you say there is always robbing her nail varnish, it will make a change from her stealing mine all the time

Harold, have you tried brasso?
I mean giving it a proper hard core rag strangling few sessions?
The part is injection moulded I think so if you work at it hard, it should come up shiny eventually. We are talking about the actual red switch are we not?

Yes essentially it's the same kind of stuff - Ideally the non metallic standard t-cut. (Red bottle).

Okay mate - not saying it will work but worth a shot. Guessing if it works, you could always lacquer over it to stop it fading again. Good luck.

I will try it Nick and see how it goes I was also considering some Airfix / Humbrol enamel as they are made for plastics and then satin laquer over the top.
