I have found myself wondering how I got to this point in my Superdream restoration and when I became obsessive about the little things. By this I mean I bought my Superdream to rob for parts to finish a Superdream Chop I started years ago and never finished, but when I got the donor bike home, I thought it was too good to just rob parts of which set me on my current path of restoring this CB250NA. The thing is my original intention was never to do a ground up restoration but in fact to tidy it up a wee bit and just get it through an MOT. But once I started taking bits of I just kept going until it was in bits and then found when I tidied one bit up it made other bits look bad you probably all know how it goes as I would say a lot of us on here have been through the same process. But my point is after cleaning up my gear shift last night I realised that the little rubber dust covers were not there and I found myself ordering a set this morning because I would not have been happy putting it back on knowing they should be there and I wondered when did I become so obsessive about such little details. My bike will hopefully be a nice example when finished but by no means perfect and with a number of pattern parts on it but it is amazing how these projects just suck you in further and further. I hold this forum partly responsible because if I had not been a member I probably wouldn't have known what was missing / non original, saying that I probably would have never got it back together again either. I know that originality isn't everyone's aim and that the degree of originality sought varies from member to member but I am just surprised how much my aims have changed over the course of the project. I also know that there are a number of members who are more interested in keeping the bike going by whatever means possible and others who have gone down the custom route and I respect them all and in all honesty if I got another SD I would probably go down the custom route myself to avoid the expense and hassle of chasing ever decreasing numbers of good original parts. How obsessive are you about your project whether it be chasing NOS parts or spending hours making that custom part look just how you want it ?

I think you may have a point I think FB and Crouchy are slowly brainwashing us all although I think you too Steve have a hand in it with your hidden subliminal messages on the forum. I think their plan, as is already apparent is to buy up all the NOS stock available while working on getting us all hooked and then they are going to become our dealers, drip feeding little bits of NOS to us all while we do their evil bidding.

I got the bug some time back, as a lot may know. It is very addictive. It's the thrill of finding of the parts as well as being able to improve the bikes and get them to as near as they were like when new (for me personally).

Harold, I recognise the symptoms....I think it's a disease called fungomania - i've had it for 3 years.............and still haven't finished the bike!!!
Perhaps we need to start a support group!

Nick you have an eye for detail and originality, nowt wrong with that i say, infact i totaly take me hat off to you and anyone else who seeks the factory showroom standard, i have been down that route years ago when the internet wasnt avilable so you can imagine what my phone bill was like, i have still got the bike but i am not sure if i could go down that route again but who knows.

I would love to travel that road - in fact I am so tempted by quite a few bikes at the moment, including finding the right CB100N.
But I really have to keep the lock on the wallet at the moment as all my spare is needed to get my r/c boat venture off the ground!
So far, it has cost me something like 2 grand, and all I have to show for it are a few prototype parts and a pile of wood which resembles a couple of hulls. Very soon I am going to have to shell out £600 for the mould of our first fibreglass hull, so any thoughts of spending on NOS will have to wait until some very nice people with money to burn buy a few of my kits!!!!! We have a deadline to meet of September this year which is our first attendance at a show as a trader as opposed to a visitor.

Good luck with your venture Carl and fair play to you for giving it a go. I hope it proves to be very successful for you.
