Harold, it was Jimmy Corkhill and the reg on the Probe was L865 KJM.........

I remember at the time listening to the news and they had checked to see if Top Gear had put that registration on the car but they found that it had been re-registered by a previous owner years before, why I don't know could have been a personal reg or something.

It doesn't seem like a cherished reg - it's a very ordinary 1990/1991 number isn't it?

I think with the totally scripted (but still enjoyable) TopGear format, they knew exactly the significance of the numberplate. And it would have featured in the program in a jocular way.
It just backfired on them is all....
