How many of you are 'doing a winter' on your Superdreams or other old and classic themed bikes? If you are, let us know how you are getting on. Below is a guy I snapped whilst being back in the UK last month. Certainly an 'all weather' kinda chap......riding a 35k mile 2001 year Bonnie. Owned from new? Who knows...

Been using cx since I got it Nick done 350 ish since mid November even washing it in the dark feel a lot safer in the wet with new front tyre

Excellent Bodie.
I was having a conversation with CTB recently about how certain makes of bike fare in the salty winters. I think all of them suffer cosmetically in some way but there are steps you can take to protect these 'all year' riders as best you can. Wiping them down before parking them up even for the night etc. There are also some products you can apply to protect the chrome and alloy.

The roads I'm using are low ground and don't get any salt on them I only live 5 miles from work and daves workshop and my mate at Jurby is a similar distance the main problem is mud on roads around me from farmers another thing to consider on the cx is shaft drive ,no grinding chains and sprockets covered in crap

I ride pretty much all year round and have for the last dozen or so years, last 4 on a K1200Gt previous few on a Honda NT650 Deauville. I only need to do a 8 miles for my commute into Lincoln so cold is not an issue (heated Grips and Seat , and we've not had a lot of salt put down around here yet. The Honda was great to ride in the winter, not a fan of high wind, it was like riding a sail then, but all the white metal would pit badly with salt corrosion, the GT not so much but I find the front calipers get very clogged with road crap and have to rebuild them every year, let's face it it's built for touring the south of France not the Lincolnshire wolds. The GT rides well in all weathers except very icy, too much power in any gear to get moving and since I live on a non council maintained estate I have a mile to ride before I see a gritted road.

I used to use my bike all year round , my poor old cm250 certainly got put through it,s paces, sadly no longer have the cm, these days I hardly use my bikes from the end of October thru till March , a few blasts but nothing like I used to , I don't take the cold like I used to unfortunately

Yes I'm the same Paul ,back in the eighties I used to love winter rallies (something about camping in the snow ) dread going to the shop in the stuff these days

Yes I'm the same Paul ,back in the eighties I used to love winter rallies (something abouting like mad now , i camping in the snow ) dread going to the shop in the stuff these days After the new year I rode to work Thursday 2nd Jan some 15 miles when I got there I could feel the cold on my chest , did,nt learn did the same Friday , poorly all weekend and even ended up off work 1 day still coughing now , silly sausage, not had a sick day off work in 5 years

I'll confess these days I'm happy being a wuss and not riding in winter. When I ran nothing but bikes it was different (old 900 ninja in 3" of snow, killer, but I made it home) but I'v inflicted so much harm on them with the salt that I'm just not prepared to do it any more. that said back before xmas the car broke a rear spring (snapped in half at a standstill while parked at home?) and I ended up getting taxis to and from work for two days (no buses where I live) that cost me over £50 which really pains a yorkshireman. so I went out to the garage and decided to fire the xbr up only to find I'd put the steering lock on parking light and totally flattened the battery. tried the cafe racer battery (wouldnt fit) tried the quack battery (ditto) and admitted defeat, it would take as long to get a new battery as it would to get a new spring for the car. oh well at least it saved the bike from the dreaded salt
