Once finished with the cx I started doing a bit on Pauls new 400/4 winter project and I thought the clocks looked a bit shabby so I started on them while Paul was striping all the metal work down for power coating so opened them up the same way I did SD ones but they are metal not plastic so no worries about cracking cases when bending over one side of the sealing ring first the rev counter face was cleaned and the red band painted then removed from its base so that could be blasted and painted then the outer case had the same treatment The speedo had the trip knob and rubber missing so it was a lot worse inside base done chrome back polished clock face cleaned and needle tips repainted red rubber seals rejuvenated glass cleaned need to leave for a few days so paint can harden as they need a lot of handling to get back together

Yes he was going to bin them and get some of eBay but good chance you would still need to do stuff to them and I teased both speedo and rev counter on my cx' rev counter cable and they both work fine a rev counter of eBay could have been the same as my one - no good been upside down in a box in the garage for years

I must admit I have been reading between the lines. If it was SD I would be glued to every word. It is very interesting though, especially if you are a CX fan.

Well nothing to do till I paint it black soon so over the last few weeks have been doing bits to Pauls 400/4 first the switch gear stripped ,blasted and etch primed then painted re paint letters then rebuilt handlebars together with correct style bars ,repro master cylinder and grips with genuine throttle cables then headlight shell sanded old paint off and plastic primed them glossed then it's the side panels nothing to do now till the metalwork returns from powder coaters ,engine parts from Aqua blasting and nuts, bolts ans washers from zincing

I think I'll commission you to do the handlebar controls on our bikes. Had a go once, but my hand's not steady enough
