Ok - at the risk of being shot down here ( go easy i'm a Junior ) ......... Why do you all preseve SD's ? apologies if this has been asked before. They are slow, with rubbish suspension, no grip, shocking brakes and little to commend them in reality, save for being quite good looking - IMHO - and probably fairly reliable (??) So why do we give them the attention they seem to get ? I'll go first - it's burned into my psyche I think. (and not in a good way) 1) My chemistry teacher had one, (Silver NA I think) and it was parked in the playground - so around the age of 13 I used to run out each breaktime and admire it, and managed to get a poster of one from somewhere - it was just so modern, (although he got smidsy'd on it in my fourth year, and he never worked again - so not all good.) 2) Then a couple of years later my mates older brother got a brand new one - (Metallic red NDB) - he was the year older than me so compared to my AR50 his was a proper big bike with electric start and four stroke engine. 3) Then ....... and this is the killer ...... my 16 year old first love dumped me for an 18 year old who had one (silver N-A I think) and who worked at the pit - me still on my 50 and just left school - just couldn't compete - he had a moustache too. 4) The 125 law came in just before I was 17 - so i couldn't get one and I wanted one sooo bad ...... (I did borrow a mates sidewinder and RD250 to pass my test on and went from my AR50 to a 1981 CB750F !! - how am i still alive ) So am I just needing help (think that's a given tbh) or do others have deep seated reasons why they retain the attachment to what is actually a pretty unexciting machine ? First dates on them etc ?

I was 17 in 1981 and had a DT50MX the year before at 16 and loved 2 strokes, I got a Kawasaki KC100 for my 17th birthday, which was a real old man looking bike, 3 months later I passed my bike test and got a 1979 Superdream in blue. It was all about the look for me, I know it wasn’t the fastest although I did race my friend who had a GSX250 and I won, he was 4 stone heavier than me at the time lol. My other mates had X7’s and 350 LC’s but I had the faithful Superdream and a good looking girl who is now my wife, the two of us went everywhere on the Superdream even Cornwall with a framed tent strapped to the top box rack. Memories I will never forget.

First bike I bought after I passed my test .To be honest I was'nt enamoured with the euro styling but with me and my girlfriend on the back I got 95 out of it trying to keep up with my mate on his 850 commando coming home from Cadwell park (it was a 400) and I managed it for most of the way then he left me .My girlfriend (now my wife ) bought it for me out of her savings which made it special ,it became special in it's own right because it was so good I just loved it PS my mate did'nt leave me for long I caught up with him just outside Maltby when he stopped for a fag I was only a couple of minutes behind him

Difficult one.My first SD was a 250 my brother aquired in a car sale/deal,he couldn’t ride it due to accident injuries and it was stuck at back of garage I’d given up riding after my brothers accident but thought I’d like to ride the SD.I had passed my test 11 years previously and had had bigger bikes, the SD got me back into riding again even bought a 400 few years later.25 years later on spur of moment bought another 250.Most of my previous bikes were Hondas and being a little older than most forum members at a stage where I don’t want to be racing round on fast bikes, the Superdream isn’t fast lol. Looking forward to other members reasons

How could anyone not love the lines of the CB250/400N ? Especially when they were finished off right.

I believe this Superdream was bought from Frettons in Leamington Spa,I never actually “owned” it I insured/taxed it but was still my brothers I can’t remember what he did with it when I moved on to a CB750 I nicked the top box and stuck it on my 750 painted in blue same colour as my Renault 5😁😁 free ssl image hosting

for me it was going to buy a bike with our lad, it was actually an mz that he'd gone to look at, but when we got there he also had a silver 250 superdream. to my fairly impressionable eyes it was a big departure from the more traditionally styled bikes that he usually came home with. I just thought it looked modern and different and I suppose that 1st impression has always stayed with me. years later I had a puncture on the 400/4 I was running at the time and the local agricultural engineers shop said I could borrow some tools to fix it (tried to pay him but he wouldnt accept) and in a corner of his shop was a black 250 kicker, I made an offer of £100 and bought it. a battery fitted (borrowed off the 400/4) and some fresh petrol and it fired straight into life. I then ran it for a good few years, the handling after the 400/4 was pretty much a revelation and once I'd got rid of the avon square deaths that it came with and put some more modern tyres on I could happily (and did) grind the hero blobs on the pegs away. so many happy memories of that bike, I could ride to work all week, then at the weekend head for the dales and cumbria and simply enjoy riding it.

DFS.
Re : GVC306V
It would seem it possibly died an early death after turning from red to black. Last tax ran out in 1982/3.

Never had an SD when I was young - first experience was going from Newcastle to Yorkshire for a weekend pillion on my mates (L-Plates on as I had a full licence) in I think 1982 - A Silver Kicker
Bought 250 SD probably 4 years ago - wanted something not to big but a bit (and I say a bit) more comfortable than my Brits and despite all on the Forum the brakes were a revelation having discs on the Front.
The 250 served me well - made DK Motrcycles from Leighton Buzzard and back again - Then decided to go for a 400
Never road a bike from 1984 to 2007 - got back into it when bored at work one day browsing ebay and put in a bid on a C15 not expecting to win
