Hi guys. Newbie post #1. Not new to bikes or fettling them with about 45 years of both at least but getting my first SD in a week or two. (Deal done just logistics to sort)
I've not seen it yet as a mate did the deal but it's allegedly done 600 miles and not run since 2012. Aside from the usual when recomissioning an engine i wondered whether there is anything SD specific to watch for. I planned to fill the carbs with cleaner / redex, empty the tank and use fresh fuel. Oil the bores and turn over on starter etc. Would you do anything else.
Also ... bit of an impossible question but how rusty will the tank be ? I'm praying for it being rust free but how likely is that based on SD experiences ?
Any and all advice gratefully received.
Cheers !

yes i would take the rocker cover off and remove the spark plugs, put some oil over the tappet arms and crank the engine by hand and make sure the tappet arms are moving as they should, last thhing you want are damage to the valves and piston.

Tank will depend on how it was stored I expect My German 400 - stored in a heated Garage in Germany for over 20 years was clean as a Whistle - also bought a second hand tank recently no rust (again from Germany) Have a look at the tanks on Ebay that will give you a good idea of range of conditons Not happened to me but look for rust rear nearside bottom of the tank - from threads in the Forum that where the commonly pin hole
