I am a new member and proud owner of a 78 400. The engine is not well and I am considering transplanting a more modern air cooled engine possibly from another manufacturer. Is this heresy ? If so I apologise and will speak of it no more. If however any one has completed such a conversion I would be very interested to hear your story. Cheers Rob

could be tricky, I'v considered it myself, but it really depends on the engine and wether its strong enough to cope with being a stressed member in the superdream frame (a lot of modern stressed member engines are mounted in much more rigid aluminium frames, would they cope with the stress?) another option woul be to add bottom rails to the frame but in all honesty I'd be incined to think it would be easier to obtain an engine and suitable frame and start from there. on the plus side there are many variants of the superdream engine and there are still a good few out there and they should just bolt in to your existing frame. my 450sc engine went straight into a superdream frame without any issues. hope this helps

Thanks Buster, that does help. I will make it a priority to in sure any engine I consider is a stressed member or as you suggested possibly add lower frame rails. It's all at the dreaming stage ....excuse the pun... at the moment but I will post more when I decide which path to take. Cheers Rob.
