SUPERDREAMS AND OTHER BIKES
If only Bike Owners would use Grease and Oil when fitting Screws,Bolts and Wheel Spindles. (never seen anyone do this)
The Chain should be checked and lubricated Regularly. Most Bikes I have seen parked have DRY CHAINS.
The Wheel Spindles should be smeared with Grease before fitting.
The Hydraulic Brake 'Bleed Nipples' were smeared with Grease before screwing in.
The Speedo and Rev Counter Inner Cables should be thoroughly Oiled before fitting. (and refilled with Oil periodically)
The 2 Accelerator Cables should be regularly Lubricated. (Split the Accelerator Control and fill the Cables Channels with Light Oil working the control backwards and forwards) Churchman

Just suffered from all of the problems you mention cm while fettling my "new" Transalp. Sorted now and all greased/lubed as appropriate for whenever the parts need to move again. However, remember to reduce torque values when using a torque wrench as values are always quoted dry. 10 to 15% off should be allowed. If tightening by hand you can feel how easily a bolt tightens up when greased as opposed to dry - much more "feel" required, particularly on smaller bolts like engine cover bolts.

I write workshop manuals for new cars. If I had my way every bolt would be smothered in grease before it was fitted. However everything we write has to be approved my the manufacturer. They don't want any lubricants used, they only consider brand new as they are manufacturing engineers. They consider it unnecessary, could cause poloution or come loose. It winds me up seeing steel bolts going into aluminium with no lube, it's just bad practice! Worse is stretch bolts, most suspension bolts now are single use! When the car is 6 years old and the clutch goes and you have to remove the subframe, I can't see any non approved garage replacing the subframe or wishbone bolts.
