Me too! Interesting that the float needle was sticking on a brand new one - don't feel so bad about mine leaking all the way back from Debyshire now

Such a good looking motorcycle.
How could anyone dislike these machines?
As great looking today as it was in 1978.

I like the question at the bottom on the cover: "Is an RD250 worth £300 more than a CZ250 Custom?" They really have to ask? Must have been a slow month..................... GB

GB I have that article too, I own a 1978 RD250E, I can post the article if you’d like to read it, can I post it here or should it go in another section of the forum?

My mates first bike was a CZ 250 ,it was horrible to ride but having said that it made it all the way to Weymouth and back from South yorkshire only problem he had with it was a ruined back tyre (we had to replace it ) and a damaged rear mudguard which we had to remove alltogether which was quite funny as the nuts holding it on had been rounded off at some point in its life so we took it off with a tin opener. four of us went on that trip two CD 175s the CZ and my mate Rays brand new Suzuki GT 250 (he refused to carry much gear because it was new) which is why we had so much piled on the CZ thus knackering the tyre .all in all it was an interesting holiday

Love both articles. I think at the time, people were slightly hard on the 250 SD's and even harder on the 250/400 Dream. The 250's were always going to be a compromise for the old learner legal market. All 4 bikes are superb, although I still prefer the old 400four to the Dream or SD. Luckily I can have all three if I want (and soon will, being on the lookout for a 400SD).
I never liked any CZ or MZ bikes from that period, in the same way that I would never have bought a Skoda or a Lada back then. For me to buy an old CZ or MZ now, it would have to be in very good condition, and very, very cheap, and even then, it would only be so that I could say I'd experienced them before punting them on. I would have an RD though.

Interestingly, I have a 1978 RD250E YBU198T which I’ve owned since 2007, my first RD YBU201T was stolen in 1981 and never recovered, and I’ve just taken delivery of a brand new Skoda Superb, I too would never have bought a Skoda back then, different times now.

Yep! Lovely RD - my favourite colour scheme on these bikes. I must try and find a nice one like that sometime soon.

My friends and I had a plethora of 250's between us, including an MZ and a CZ. The CZ was simply horrible in everyway, but the MZ was (despite being immensely ugly) a pretty capable bike in its own way. I was a Suzuki GT250 rider, which I part exchanged for the 400T in 1978, I subsequently had a KH250 and an RD400 (which I used in Earlystock racing), both of which I gave away in the early 90's (I was moving to the USA), because nobody really wanted them!! Can you imagine that now!!

great articles and thanks for sharing. just to stick my oar in a bit, the cz and mz's have a certain practicality in the countries where they were built and at the time they were built. I wouldnt have either of them given here in blighty but I half heartedly concieved a plan to do ewen mcgregor and charlie boormans long way round journey a few years ago (couldnt afford it so it'll never happen now) and the best bike I could think of to do that trip on was an mz.
