The back of my frame where the springs were snapped on the welds on both sides, wonder if they modified the frame because of this if it was a common fault, i was only an eight year old kid and no heavyweight.

If you look at photos of both models you’ll see that the change is quite significant. Apparently the MK1’s should wheelie with little or no effort especially with a passenger, so the H&S brigade stepped in and forced the revisions. I don’t remember it being a problem tho....

Hey Rich, I’ve bagged a MK1 frame set off evilbay. It has forks, crank and arms, mudguard, handlebar stem and headset. (£250) in my original Horizon Blue, not that it matters because I’m going to have it stove enamelled and restored. I feel a new labour of love about to begin! I guess it’ll be another loss making exercise but in the end a mint MK1 will be worth the effort. This won’t be completed overnight because like NNR, finding original parts will be tricky esp NOS but I’m in no hurry, I’m just pleased to have a MK1 frame to work with. I’m suffering with the worst cold I’ve had for years so bagging this has cheered me up no end....

I always wanted one but it never happened but I will get one soon Hello mate, Did you ever find a Chopper to restore? I'm in the final throes of mine. I bagged a MK1 frame last year and have been collecting the bits ever since. If the plan has halted and you want to flog the front tyre let me know!! could use one. Some pratt broke the mould so Raleigh aren't making anymore for the time being. I bet he's popular! When mines done I'll post some piccys. Regards Ian

I remember my chopper, it was blue, I loved it, until I hit the breaks one day. there is a big difference in doing your nuts in on a crossbar on a conventional bike, you actually hit your chopper at well as your nuts on these bikes. still...........I loved the bike.

This looks a good one wonderful thing, I’ll be forever wondering if the chopper gear lever is rigged to the engine like an old suicide shifter

If I can figure out how, I’ll upload pictures of the progress of my MK1 rebuild. As with any high end restoration it’s not for the faint hearted, I’m in way over my head but once you start these things ... I’m actually very close to having all the bits to start the build, I’m just saving up to get the frame stove enamelled in brilliant orange then I can bolt on all my shiny bits hopefully by Christmas it’ll be done. I’ve just ordered a RH pattern silencer for NNR ‘cos I had to take the original Hondas off as they’re irreplaceable and good pattern ones look very similar. I’m told the LH are due in again in October so I’ll grab one then. It never ends does it!

He should have taken it to Kwik Fit - they would have recommended a front disc upgrade
